Very slowly awareness of autism is growing, both in our communities as a whole as well as within the Orthodox Church. Parents, priests, and parishioners are putting in the effort to engage children on the autism spectrum in church. But children with autism grow up into adults with autism. How do adults with autism go about church life and connecting to God? It is hardly surprising there is little material out there yet on this topic. The realization that adults with autism face similar, yet different challenges to the children is a recent one. That autism may also have an influence on their spiritual lives is something that hasn't been fully explored. This book isn't the answer. This book asks some of the questions, and attempts to take the first step towards an exchange between people with autism amongst themselves, but also with their non-autistic fellow parishioners and clergy.
